Taking walking holidays in Spain is an alternative method of seeing the land of Spain, to be in touch with nature and the local culture. It is a good way to exercise and a great means to explore the land and what it offers. There are so many places where nature explorers can spend walking holidays. Spain is a great place to start. As a well developed area for travelers, the country offers trekkers a wide range of options from self-guided to guided walking holidays, a wide variety of terrains to choose from, types of accommodations, food and even a particular climate for their travels. There are even levels of difficulty that walkers choose from, from easier flat terrains to mountainous areas.

Going on a walking trip does not simply involve seeing what nature has to offer. With such a blessed land such as Spain, tourists will get to know about its rich history and culture. Each region has its own area to offer walkers. In the province of Castillia La Mancha Spain, walkers can enjoy the beauty of nature with its numerous natural parks. Within this region alone, there are a total of seven parks. It is also where the fictional character Don Quixote is said to be from.

North of the country, close to Portugal is the Castilla y Leon province. It is here where the Castillian Spanish originated from. One of the largest areas in all of Spain, the region has a rich history dating to the time of the celebrated hero El Cid. Known as the land of castles, walkers here will enjoy seeing a large number of castles still standing, dating as far back as the time of the occupation of the Moors around the 8th century. It is interesting to note that with all of the history that surrounds this area, this region of Spain is rarely frequented by tourists.

Another great region worth spending time in is Mallorca. Compared to the Castilla y Leon, this area is a popular area for tourists because of its wonderful beaches. The mountainous area surrounding the region is a preferred choice for walkers of all levels and abilities. One such hotspot is the Castell D’ Alaro where walkers can explore the chapel built on a hilltop as well as the remaining ruins of a castle while taking in the breathtaking views of the sea.

There are a number of other great places where tourists can spend their walking holidays. Spain is a vast land rich in history and surrounded by nature. Walkers need not look very far to have a great time in Spain.
