What to see in Teulada
Teulada is a small town located in Alicante on the Costa Blanca. This coastal town was founded in 1386. Like a lot of towns along the Mediterranean coastline, Teulada was fortified with towers in an attempt to stop the Barbary pirates from making invasions, and like much of the coast, the watchtower is still in good condition. Again, as with many other towns in the region, the Moors had a lot to do with the birth of agriculture all over this part of Spain. This is because they designed and built built irrigation systems which helped grow many different types of crops.
Teulada was once a sleepy fishing village. Although you can still see the familiar fishing sights and sounds, the fishermen moving out in the early morning and bringing back their produce for sale in the traditional fish market, Teulada is now a tourist attraction. There are many new buildings which have been constructed in the past few years to try to keep up with the demand that tourists are putting on the town. In fact, many different nationalities have become residents in Teulada, especially German, Dutch, and English, so much so that they have formed their own political party.
Some of the more picturesque architecture in Teulada includes the St Catherine Church which is a temple fortress construction from the Renaissance period which used to act as a refuge during Berber pirate raids. Other tourist attractions in the area are of course the cities of Benidorm and Calpe to the south, with Denia and Javea to the east. There is a street market which is held every Wednesday morning in Teulada. You can also take part in the festivities with several local fiestas including the Moors and Christians which are held during the second week in June and the San Vincente Ferrer Festival which takes place on the first Monday after Easter Monday, celebrating the patron saint of Teulada.
Other sports enthusiasts, there is plenty to do on the wonderful beaches all up and down the Costa Blanca Coast. But the golfing enthusiast, there is much to offer in Teulada golfing with so many golf courses to choose from in the region.
