Where to locate Redovan

Redovan is located on the Costa Blanca in the South East territory of Spain. The town is just south west of the city of Elche. The region’s airport, Aeropuerto Internacional de Alicante, is located within Elche municipality, 9 km Southwest of Alicante city. Alicante airport is the busiest airport of the whole region, and the sixth busiest airport in Spain. Other cities that are in the area include Alicante city itself which is also to the North East of Redovan. There is also to other airports in the region, Murcia airport to the south and Valencia airport to the north.To the south west, you will find the city of Torrevieja which is very popular among tourists.

Accommodation in Redovan

Redovan is only a small enough town so, although you will find Redovan hotels, Redovan guesthouses, etc, you may have to travel outside the town if you’re looking for the more expensive accommodation such as five-star hotels. Redovan accommodation is very sufficient, clean, and the people are very friendly. Make sure that you also search the neighboring towns if you are looking for accommodation, some of the towns that are close to Redovan include Cox, Rojales, Orihuela, Almoradi, San Fulgencio, Dolores, Callosa de Segura, San Carlos, Benejuzar, Rafal, and Catral.

Rent a car in Redovan

There is a genuine shortage of municipal transport in this area so you should truly hire a car if you intend to do any type of traveling or you would like to go to see local amenities or attractions. In Redovan, you will find a good selection of places to eat and drink. So, if all you’re interested in doing is relaxing and spending a quiet holiday in the one spot, you don’t really need to rent a car. But, if you’re going to take advantage of what the area has to offer you’re going to have to get some sort of transportation, most of the time that means renting a car. If you cannot obtain a Redovan car hire you might find one in the neighboring towns, and don’t forget the many different Companies that are available from the airports in the region.

About Redovan

According to the Spanish National statistics office, Redovan had a population of 6982 people in 2007. The municipality is located in the district known as the Vega Baja. The north west of the town is the Sierra de Callosa which is characterized by very rocky slopes. To the south and the North are the plains of the Huerta de la Vega Baja.

The airport Alicante has only 25 minutes drive away; there is also an airport to the south in Murcia. The A-7 Autovia is directly accessible through the N-340.

The area itself was probably settled by peoples of the Bronze Age. Different Mediterranean civilizations have passed through this area including the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Iberians, the Romans, and of course the Arabs. This is actually one of the oldest towns in the region and the name of the town is obviously of Arab origin.

Although the Muslims ruled over this part of Spain for almost five centuries, the Christian Reconquista in 1242 put the land firmly into the hands of the crown of Aragon.

The religious temple was constructed in the village in 1396. Throughout the centuries, Redovan has passed through the hands of many different noble families. In the middle of the 14th century, disease ravaged the whole area and agriculture was greatly affected. The town also went through some of the worst times during the 14th and 15th centuries including the constant wars that were going on between the feuding kings and the constant threat of plunder from the Barbary pirates.

In the 17th century, the fates of Redovan seemed to change as agriculture became more and more successful. But that luck didn’t hold out because in 1829 an earthquake struck the region which killed many people in the town and injured others, destroying much of the town in the process.

The population of the town in 1857 was 1159. By 1950 the number of people living in the town had risen to 3600, and by 2007 population of Redovan had increased to 6982.

The economy of the town is mainly focused around the service industry and construction. There’s also a small agricultural industry is still surviving.

Some of the attractions and sites in the region include the Antiguo Ayuntamiento (the Old City Hall) this building has great artistic value and dates from the late 19th century, including a clock tower. It is located in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Also you should see the Iglesia Parroquial de San Miguel Arcángel (the Parish Church of St Michael Archangel) this parish church was built in the 14th century, the year that the village was founded, whose style is Romanesque. The original building was completely demolished in 1699 and a new temple was built in 1701.

Another building that is worth seeing is the Nuevo Ayuntamiento (The New City Hall). Also you should see the Easter Museum, the municipal Auditorium, and the house of music.

There are some very nice places around Redovan that are very pleasing to tourists. There is a variety of hiking and climbing routes through the mountains and some of these routes have literary and cultural significance such as la Senda del Poeta (the Poets Path). In the mountains, there are two different recreational areas for you to enjoy which are underneath the Pine tries with fantastic views over the Huerta de la Vega Baja. There are also numerous campsites that are springing up all over the region, especially catering for the traveler who doesn’t mind roughing it.

The coastline is only a short distance with many different towns and cities to choose from. Towards the bottom end of the Costa Blanca is the city of Torrevieja where you will find many tourist attractions, beautiful beaches, the Salt Lakes, and great nightly entertainment. Also, you should take a trip down to the seaside town of Guardamar del Segura. There you’ll find a town which is packed with different things to do.

For the sporty type there are plenty of outdoor activities in this part of the world. For instance, there are plenty of coastal sports that you can partake in such as diving, water skiing, jet skiing, Paragliding. Also, you may want to try out some of the golf courses that are dotted up and down the region. Redovan golfing has a lot to offer with two of nearby courses being Villamartin and Las Ramblas.

What to eat in Redovan

Not including the mouth-watering Spanish cooking which is offered in Redovan, you can take part in fantastic cuisine from many numerous nationalities including Dutch, Chinese, Indian, Cantonese, English, and Hungarian. You truly have to be hard to please if you cannot see something to suit your tastes in this area. The local cuisine has much to offer from fresh wholesome vegetables which are grown locally, fruit from the nearby trees, and seafood which has only just come out of the sea. For breakfast you should try a Tostada which is basically a French loaf, toasted and rubbed with a garlic clove, sprinkled with olive oil with lashings of crushed tomatoes. A little salt and pepper and you’re good to go. The beauty about the food here is that it has been handed down through the generations, there is no need for cookbooks here. Everything is down-to-earth simple cooking that tastes great

The weather in Redovan

Sunlight is the universal rule when it comes to weather in the district and in Redovan. The winters are mild and sunny the summers are wonderful and hot. Rainfall does not show its face very often but it is well expected that it does rain occasionally. It can frequently mean a stimulating pause from the invariable heat.
