Punta Prima on the Costa Blanca

Punta Prima is a small resort town which resides to the south of Torrevieja. You can get to the town by travelling along the N -332 from Torrevieja, approximately 10 minutes drive. Murcia airport is the closest to the town at just over 26 km or roughly 20 minutes drive. Alicante airport is a bit further away. Although you can come all the way into Punta Prima from Alicante airport along the old N-332 with a distance of only 47.8 km and a driving time of roughly 51 minutes you can also come along the AP-7 motorway which although longer at 71.5 km distance will get you here in just over 45 minutes. With the N -332 is currently being widened to form a dual carriageway so the trip along this road will eventually be a lot quicker. Driving this route is also a lot more enjoyable because of the scenery. There route comes down along the Mediterranean coastline through the towns of Santa Pola, Guardamar, and Torrevieja. You can get an idea of the town and its surroundings from this Punta Prima map.

A word of caution about the N -332, it is one of the most populated roads in Spain especially during the summer months when it has been estimated that well in excess of 40,000 vehicles use this road on a daily basis. Taking this into account, there have been a lot of accidents especially in areas which are close to Punta Prima involving pedestrians crossing the road. So, the advice is to take care and use the proper crossing points.

This area is an up-and-coming resort town with a history only going back as far as the 1970s. Like many of the other beach resorts along this area, construction is on the increase as more and morepeople make the town their favourite destination or indeed come to stay in the area on a more permanent basis. And why not, there is so much on offer in this area. Just up the coast, as has already been stated, lies the city of Torrevieja. Here you will find everything that can be expected from a Mediterranean tourist city. Also, if you’re willing to travel further abroad you’ve got the cities of Elche, Alicante, and further north the vibrant party town of Benidorm. The Costa Blanca in general has one of the best sunshine rates in all of Europe with virtually unspoiled sunshine all the way through the summer months. You can expect to have rain only really during the winter months of December, January, and maybe even into February.

But, let’s go back to Punta Prima. The beach here is one of the best along the coast. There are also two neighbouring beaches at Cabo Roig and Playa Flamenca. A popular hotel in the area is the Hotel Torrejoven which is located on the northern part of the town. You will also find that there are plenty of apartments and other self catering venues available in the area.

For something to eat you should try the Pizzeria Barbacoa which has an excellent atmosphere. The Pizzeria located in the Centro Comercial at Punta Marina, just opposite the hotel Torrehoven. The restaurant specialises in paella, pasta and barbecued meats. It is open from April until November. There are flamenco dancers who perform here on Thursday and Sunday nights and it is recommended that you book a table if you want to see them in action. This is a restaurant where the local Spaniards also eat which is a great sign for any restaurant. You can book a table by phoning 00349657163 34 or on their mobile at 0034607816356.
