What is the location of Mutxamel?

Mutxamel is located on the Costa Blanca in the South East district of Spain. It is just north of the city of Alicante and Elche, and South of Benidorm, Denia and Javea. The regions airports are Alicante Airport, Valencia Airport and Murcia Airport.

About Mutxamel

Mutxamel is located in the province of Alicante, in the sub de la Huerta de Alicante. It is only a short distance from the city of Alicante and it has approximately 22,500 inhabitants according to the Spanish National Statistics Authority.

The history of Mutxamel

All of this region, the Costa Blanca and the province of Alicante, has had previous habitation which extends as far back as the Stone Age and maybe further. Also, because all of the situation of these towns, that is near the Mediterranean Sea, the town was historically always the target for invading civilizations. And many civilizations took their turns in raiding and ruling. One of the largest influences on this region was the Muslims. The Moors invaded in the eighth century and were here for over 400 years until they were finally defeated in the 13th century by the Christians. In that time, the Moors brought with them their systems of agriculture and irrigation. They also brought their language and manufacturing methods and it was during this time that has been called Spain’s golden age.

When the early Christians colonized the area, once the Muslims had been defeated, Mutxamel was in the hands of the crown of Castile and remained so until 1296 when it was placed under the rule of James the just and became part of the Valencian kingdom.

The reservoir was built in the area in the 16th century which vastly improved the agriculture and produce in the area. In 1580, Mutxamel was given the title University which entitled to a certain degree of independence. During the war of succession, the troops belonging to Charles, Archduke of Austria, sacked Mutxamel. The war of succession had caused much bloodshed up and down the region and many people were killed in the subsequent reprisals, particularly those who took the wrong side. During the period of republicanism, Mutxamel people were essentially Conservative and there was a lot of weight given to catholic traditions throughout the district. And during the civil war, this remained a republican area with many Catholic events still taking place in the streets.

Now, the fact of having Alicante as a neighbor can be both a blessing and an intrusion. But in the modern world, having Alicante only up the road is a blessing. Much of the town’s economy and the demographics of the town are based around having the city so close.

What to see in Mutxamel

So, what can you do if you come to Mutxamel for your vacation. Well, because the Mutxamel is so well catered for in terms of restaurants and bars and cafes, you don’t really have to travel very far to get something to eat. It is also very central in the Costa Blanca and this means that if you are in the humor to travel you are going to be in a position to see so much of the countryside surrounding Mutxamel and the towns and cities that are up and down the coast. Alicante is superb and you can spend days or even weeks just exploring the beautiful streets and all of its wonderful architecture. Also, a short drive to the north of Mutxamel is the city of Benidorm. Benidorm is in effect a brand-new city which only 30 years ago was a small fishing village. Although Benidorm has the reputation of being a party town, there is plenty to do here for the family. This includes two great theme parks which are just on the outskirts of Benidorm where you can get all your thrills and spills.

Of course, many people come to the Costa Blanca just to relax and take in the sunshine. And, there’s nothing wrong with that. If that’s all you want out of your vacation then you have definitely come to the right place because the sunshine is almost always guarantee in this part of the world. And, there are plenty of different venues for you to choose when it comes to evening entertainment. Also, the region is famous for its mountainous countryside. Many, many people come here every year in order to walk in the hills and if you enjoy hiking or trekking then you are sure to enjoy your stay here. Other pastimes that you can take part in here include pony trekking, fishing, and golfing. Mutxamel golfing has so much to offer the avid golfer. There are some of the different courses up and down the Costa Blanca that you really will be spoilt for choice. Make sure that you are aware of the different rules and regulations that each golf club have including the handicap requirement.

The festive calendar of Mutxamel, like most of the towns in this region, is an all year thing. For instance there is a Festival on January 5 to celebrate the Three Kings Cavalcade. August has the Feast of the Savior, and in September is the Festival for the Moors and Christians. This is probably the most famous festival in the region and in Mutxamel is held in honor of our Lady of Loreto. She is the patron saint of the town and tradition says that she has performed two miracles for the people of Mutxamel. One occurred on March 1, 1545 and the second occurred on September 9, 1597. This particular Fiesta has been actively held since the 19th century and is great fun to watch. If you can time your vacation to coincide with the festival then you are going to have a great time.

What to eat in Mutxamel

This province of Spain boasts many different types of cuisine from numerous areas of the globe. To refer to a few, there is of course the excellent food of the Spanish, then there is German, Chinese, Dutch, English, Cantonese, and Hungarian cuisine. There will be other delectable national cooking if you look in the town of Mutxamel itself or in the surrounding towns and cities. The cookery reflects the diverse mixture of the area, so, you should in no way be stuck for deals when dining out. When you eat here, you really notice that the food reflects the natural. Fresh vegetables and fresh seafood is part of the beauty of the area.

Right through the year, the climate in the municipality of Mutxamel is sunny. The winters are temperate and sunny the summers are beautiful and hot. Rain is something which is delighted in within this province, a respite from the recurrent sun, but don’t be troubled because rain doesn’t appear that often.
