What is the position of Jacarilla?

The location of Jacarilla is in the South East of Spain, in the area which is known as the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante. History

The history of town of Jacarilla traces its origins to as far back as the 4th century BC, when the area was settled in by Iberians. During that time, the land appeared much different as the area which includes the town of Jacarilla was at the end of a marshland. Some historical documents indicated that a pilgrimage to a spiritual center was conducted. The last stage of the pilgrimage was to a place called Sakariskera meaning a place where the river stops the sand. Over time, the name changed to Xacariella and then Hacarilla until much later on, the town was referred to as Jacarilla.

The Moors resided in these parts for several centuries until the time of the conquest led by King James I of Aragon in the mid 13th century. A few centuries later, the Muslim families were evicted. During the 17th century, the town gained its freedom from Orihuela. Ownership was passed from members of nobility up until the mid 20th century. Architecture

While in the vicinity of the town of Jacarilla, tourists should take advantage of seeing the various built structures that have remained standing over the centuries. Some are privately owned but are still worth noting. One is the Casa Palacio del Marques de Fontalba. It is a lavish but functional structure with a height of two storeys. The façade of this House Palace faces the Pine Forest Gardens. Another structure worth visiting is the Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem. Built in the Neo-Gothic style, it contains relics said to be donated by the Marquis Family.

Tourist Attraction

When in Jacarilla, visit the Pine Forest Gardens. The gardens consist of an area totaling 2 hectares, located in front of the House Palace. It is a large, rectangular garden with elements taken from the Neoclassic, Arabic and Renaissance periods. Tall palm trees border the area with interesting spots such as the Grotto of Our Lady of Almudena.
