What to see in Hondon de las Nieves
History
The small town of El Fondó de les Neus is also known as Hondon de las Nieves in its native Valencian tongue. Studies indicate that the Greeks were the first actual inhabitants in the area although there is not much to confirm this theory. Much like the origins of the surrounding villages, there is more evidence relating to the existence of the Arabs. They inhabited and multiplied within the province, up until the mid 13th century. During such time, Christian troops led by King I of Aragon conquered the area. Jurisdiction over the town was given to the municipality of Aspe until the year 1839, after which the village of El Fondó de les Neus gained its independence. At the time, it had been attached to another municipality, the Hondon de los Frailes. In 1926, the two split and were recognized as separate municipalities.
Architecture
There are quite a few historical structures worth noting and seeing when coming to visit El Fondó de les Neus. One is the Parish of Our Lady of the Snows. It is the municipality’s local chapel, built in 1746 under the baroque style. The façade of another structure, the Franciscan Conceptionistas Convent, was renovated and attached to the parish during the mid 20th century. Another feature worth noting is the Plaza de la Villa. In Spain, it is common to see villages with their own plazas where the most important structures are erected. Within the area of the plaza, there stands the office for the city council as well as the House of Culture.
Tourist Attraction
In an area rich in history and culture dating back to ancient times, tourists should come to see the various caves that hold these historical treasures. One such area is Rollo’s Cave, which is said to hold evidence of a settlement during the Upper Paleolithic Period.
Take a walk to the recreational area of La Cruz. Located on top of a hill within the village, there stands the San Isidro Shine, easily recognizable by its large white cross. From this point there is a magnificent view of the local village surrounded by fields painted against a backdrop of mountains. With an area built for cooking barbecue with several benches, tourists can come here to relax and mingle with residents.
What to Do
In addition to taking a tour around the village, tourists should also try to experience the local culture. One of the best ways of doing so is catching one of several local festivities held during the year. Each town in Spain, regardless of how big or small, has their own set of saints and iconic figures which they devote time to and have allocated celebrations for. In the town of El Fondó de les Neus, their patron saint is the Virgen de las Nieves, for which the local parish is built for. During the 5th of August every year, the day is celebrated beginning with the image of the Virgen being paraded through several towns. Afterwards, a series of events and activities are carried out. Another celebration worth seeing is the Feast of San Isidro Labrador, who is known as the patron saint of the farmers. This is celebrated during the 5th of May with processions of the image made throughout town.
Sport
Spain is known for its wonderful areas perfect for hikers. Its terrain and climate is conducive for physical activity. When not exploring the surrounding areas, playing sports is a good alternative to remain physically active. There are some sporting facilities in the town of El Fondó de les Neus worth using. Some are smaller and built for a more specific purpose while others can accommodate a variety of activities. The largest facility in the town is the CDAD Bonmati Sports and Jover. It has facilities for sports such as swimming, tennis and football. Within the National Col Virgen de Las Nieves are facilities for indoor football, handball and even mini-basketball.
Hondon de las Nieves Golfing

With its luscious greens, its golf courses have put the province on the map and recognized worldwide. Some golf courses worth checking while in the area are La Marquesa Golf and La Finca Golf.

Not sure where you will get a full list, I am sure that the majority will have some sort of web presence, searching for estate agents in the Hondon Valley brings up quite a few. Hope this helps!
I shall be visiting/driving through Hondon De Las Nieves in a few weeks time and wonder if you can recommend a good restaurant for “menu” lunch.
Hey John
You could try the new Italian although I’m not sure if it does lunch menus… La Buena Vida. There is also a fish restaurant called Restaurante Polideportivowith the lunch menu at around €12.
