To complete the feast for the senses, there are the local festivities. It seems like there is always a celebration when visiting Altea or any of its neighbors. This is hardly surprising as Spain is known for having numerous fiestas held nationally or only within certain towns or villages. Besides the nationally or regionally celebrated festivities are celebrations common for all Spanish towns but distinct within each one. Locally referred to as the Schutzheiligenfest, this particular feast is dedicated to the town’s patron saint. The town of Altea celebrates this event during the final weekend of the month of September in honor of their patron Christ of the Tabernacle. This event is celebrated by holding parades of the Moors and Christians.

Much of the festivities in Spain are dedicated or influenced by religious figures. Another festivity is held during February. Known as the Mid Year, these are celebrated for the San Blas as well as the Cristo de la Salud. Parades of the Moors and Christians are also performed during such time.

With the lovely terrain and weather, the town is also conducive for a variety of sports. As a village built along the coastlines, some of the water related sports and activities include swimming, fishing and diving. Hiking, mountain climbing and biking are recommended around the outskirts of town while more common sports such as tennis and football are popular with the residents. As the Costa Blanca region is also renowned for having wonderful golf courses, golfing is also recommended when visiting the town of Altea.
