The position of Granja de Rocamora is in the South East of Spain, in the region called the Costa Blanca, and it is part of the Province of Alicante. The town is just inland from the coastal resort of Guardamar del Segura. Also, the larger cities of Torrevieja to the south and Elche to the north are also within easy reach. The nearest airport is Alicante airport which is located just outside Elche with a distance of 39.5 km. There are also two other airports in the region. The second closest is in the southern province of Murcia. Murcia airport is just over 64 km from the centre of Granja de Rocamora. Also, if you are coming in from the northern province of Valencia, Valencia airport is a tidy 234 km.

You can stay in many different places in the Costa Blanca counting guest houses, hotels, self catering houses, self catering apartments and camping facilities. The town of Granja de Rocamora is quite small so the levels of accommodation that you can expect to find here are limited. Having said that, there is a wealth of choice in the surrounding areas. For instance, you can try the neighbouring towns of Cox, Catral, Rojales, Callosa de Segura, Redovan, Albatera, or Benferri. Most people think of the larger hotels and accommodations when they come to the Costa Blanca. And you can understand why to a certain degree. If you stay in the larger towns and cities in Alicante then you are going to be able to better take advantage of all the facilities that are available. If, however, you decide to stay in Granja de Rocamora, there are a few choices. Granja de Rocamora Car Hire

You really need a car to rent if you would like to check out some of the interesting places and facilities in this region since there is a genuine lack of public transport. If you don’t plan to go any distance, Granja de Rocamora is very well appointed in terms of restaurants, shops, bars. But if you want to get pleasure from loads of the surrounding areas then you’re going to take pleasure in a lot more by taking a car rental. There are several companies in nearby towns and cities where you can rent a car, or you can always choose to pickup from the airport as you disembark, almost all the major car companies will be represented here and many local companies also. What to see in Granja de Rocamora

History

The history of the municipality of the Granja de Rocamora is similar to other villages in the surrounding area. Its origins can be traced back to a farmhouse built by Muslims. Its name was derived from the Rocamora family who were supporters of King James I. During that time members of this clan also owned several other estates including the town of Benferri and the Puebla de Rocamora. The municipality gained its independence in 1565. Muslim families continued to reside in the area up until their expulsion beginning 1609. After such time, much of the land has been divided among the farmers who continued to reside in the area.

Architecture

There are quite a number of architectural attractions worth noting in the town of Granja de Rocamora. One is the Torre Mora. Currently converted to a privately owned residence, the structure was originally built during the 12th century as a defensive structure for the Arabs that initially resided in the town. Another structure worth visiting is the Church of St. Peter the Apostle. Although initially constructed during the 18th century, it has recently been renovated. It is recognizable for its large central dome as well as its paintings, which have been relocated to different areas of the parish. The town has another chapel which is known as La Ermita de la Cruz. It was also recently remodeled in 1996.

Tourist Attraction

In addition to taking a tour around the town and see its historic buildings, the town of Granja de Rocamora can also offer tourists a variety of places where they can relax and enjoy the view. It has more than a few parks and plazas for travelers of different ages and preferences. These include the Immigrants Plaza, Filomeno Plaza Ferrandiz Perez, the Plaza San Pedro, the Church Square and even the Kids Park. In addition, tourists can also explore the various local shops in the town. Mondays are the best days to see and buy a variety of items from flowers to handicrafts to imported items. On the outskirts of town lies a garden which has a view of the town. Known as The Vineyard, it is actually a school which offers courses on farming and preserving nature.

As I said before, there is plenty to do in the surrounding towns and villages. Guardamar del Segura is an excellent seaside resort which will give you a taste of both the Mediterranean coastline activity and much in the way of Spanish hospitality in the town. There is a weekly market here for you to enjoy and plenty of restaurants.

What to Do

Another interesting way of learning more about the town of Granja de Rocamora and its people is by seeing it during one of its festivities. Spain is known for a selection of colorful celebrations held in honor of various iconic figures. One of the town’s more important celebrations is in honor of their patron saint San Pedro. Beginning on the 29th of June each year, it is a three day celebration consisting of various activities. A more nationally celebrated event is the Cruz de Mayo, celebrated during the third day of May. Also celebrated during this time is the Moors and Christians Parade. From May1-3, floral parades go through the town in celebration of these events. Later on in the year, October 7 is when the feast dedicated to Virgen del Rosario is celebrated. This event is observed alongside the month of Aurora wherein weekends are allocated for residents singing various songs. It is an event for the entire community as songs originating from the 18th century are passed on to the next generation.

Sport

The local community of Granja de Rocamora is active in a number of sports. They also have several sporting facilities for public use which tourists can take advantage of. The town has at least two facilities which can accommodate a large number of sports including Fronton, Football, Futsal, Gymnastics, Horse Riding, Judo, Swimming, Petanque, Tennis and Volleyball.

Granja de Rocamora Golfing

In a town blessed with magnificent views and varied terrain such as Granja de Rocamora, golfing is an added incentive for tourists and golf enthusiasts. The town is situated near an assortment of accommodations and golf courses including Villamartin, Las Ramblas, Campoamor Golf and La Marquesa.

What to eat in Granja de Rocamora

Except for the appetizing Spanish gastronomy which is offered in Granja de Rocamora, you can take part in fabulous food from several diverse countries including China, the Netherlands, India, England, Hungary, German, and French. The cooking reflects the variety of the region, you should on no account be stumped for deals when eating. Everyone should love the Spanish cuisine not only because it is so tasty but because it is so healthy. Most of the food they eat and here is very natural and much of it is either grown in the area, caught in the Mediterranean, or raised over the many farms in the region. 1.2 km from Granja de Rocamora is the pizzeria El Popolo which is located on Calle de Juan de Austria, 11, 03350 in the neighbouring town of Cox. Just like everywhere in the region, the climate in Granja de Rocamora are normally very warm and sun-drenched. There are magnificent hot sunny summers and kind sunny winters. Rainfall does not come very often but it is well accepted that it does rain sometimes. It can very often involve a stimulating respite from the steady heat.
