“This small hotel is something very special. It is in a beautifully restored grand old house with spacious rooms, high ceilings, very tall doors and nicely furnished. The staff are all very friendly and well trained and there was a warm welcome at the Reception. The gardens are a delight and there is a parking area inside the area protected by electric gates.
The Restaurant is high quality with extensive menu and wine list and the service is seriously professional.
The very Spanish small town of Blanca is situated in the lush green Valle de Ricote and is alongside a delightful stretch of the Rio Segura with wonderful riverside walks, a bit unusual in this dry part of southeastern Spain. At the southern end of the riverside walk you go up to the “Mirador” which is a viewing platform built out over the river. There are superb views up the river, over the town and the castle. Looking down river you see the dam formed by the hydro-electric power station further away where the river effectively ends. To reach the Mirador turn left at the sign as you first enter town coming in from the Murcia – Albacete motorway.
Not much nightlife and it is difficult to eat out at night although there are many tapas bars open at lunchtime.
Going south beyond the hydro-electric power station is the village of Ojos where foreigners are not welcome. The locals fear that strangers will buy up the houses, put up the prices and generally change the place, as usually happens.
Further upstream the Rio Segura is in attractive countryside some of which is quite wild and the town of Moratalla is a popular outdoor tourist destination with canoeing in the river canyons, walking/trekking, camping, mountaineering, etc.
We will be visiting this area again although there is a lack of hotels in other towns such as Abaran.”

” An excellent experience, would encourage others to book the same. Beware that the Archena spa is quite a walk from this hotel as the Hyltor is in the town and the spa is a resort in its own right about a km away. It is also helpful to speak good spanish or have a phrase book handy – english is not widely spoken here! ”
” The hotel was very good, clean and modern with friendly staff. When booking we had not been aware of the distance to the main spa centre (1/2 – 1 mile). In good weather this would not have been a problem but heavy rain meant we could not walk there. The hotel spa was good but there were not instructions in English so we were a little confused about the system. A clock would have been appreciated as we did not know how long we had been in the spa and when our hour was up. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the hotel. ”
