My ideas surrounding villas in Spain were quite narrow in comparison to what they are now. When the idea of moving to Spain first crossed my mind it was with the notion of trying to buy a small rural finca that needed some work, then to spend a few months in renovations. Well, for a variety of reasons, the move to Spain didn’t happen the way it was planned. The fact is, although we did buy a place in Spain, we haven’t yet made the move full-time.

A villa in Spain covers so many different varieties of accommodation. The original concept of a villa is a luxurious country house for the upper classes. Indeed, a villa in my imagination always comes up pictures of large sumptuous houses. What I would imagine would be the same as a country mansion in England or a ranch style house in the US. But if you look at villas in Spain, you can find property of all different classes. Cheap villas in Spain can be found on all the new urbanizations. Although there is nothing fundamentally wrong with these types of houses, that kind of thing wouldn’t suit me at all. If you’re into that kind of community then you are going to find something to your taste within these areas. Some of these urbanizations are equipped with their own pubs, shops, churches, children’s play areas, etc. So there can be a real sense of community in some of these places, especially where you have a large population of ex-pats who have permanently made the move. A large section of these urbanizations are sometimes purchased in order to service the market for holiday villas in Spain market. And if you can buy one at the right price with almost constant bookings to cover your mortgage then they are always going to make a good investment.

On the other hand, if you are looking for villas to rent in Spain, there are plenty of different properties for you to choose from. If you have the time and patience, it is great fun to search around for your ideal property whether you are buying or renting. Before we made any purchases, we spent almost a year traveling up and down the eastern coast of Spain trying to find the ideal house. In my opinion, you are never going to find an established house which will come to your expectations of your perfect home. You can only search for something that is close to your own perfect ideas and adapt this place over time. You must make sure that you have the necessary fundamentals so that you can expand your ideas and put them into practice.

But, let’s get back to villas in Spain to rent. There are plenty of ways that you can find your ideal home even if you are renting. The same rules really apply to buying or to renting. If you haven’t got a good grasp of the Spanish language then you are going to be at an immediate disadvantage. This is because you will only be able to rely on property agents who can speak English. It’s also helpful if you can converse with the homeowners themselves, and if they don’t speak your language then you are in trouble. But, there are ways and means of getting around this for instance you could hire an interpreter. This however is going to prove very costly if you are going to do what we did, which is look at tens, if not hundreds of different properties. Imagine having to hire an interpreter on an hourly basis so that you can understand what is being said to you for each and every property that you are going to visit, just not realistic.  There are far too many people who think that you can move of Spain without even a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish language. You will be able to get by without any Spanish if you plan to live in one of the English speaking urbanizations or areas along the Costa’s, deal with English-speaking estate agents, and you can afford to hire somebody to interpret for you when you get into situations where speaking English is not an option. This suits a lot of people down to the ground. But for those who want to try and immerse themselves into the beautiful Spanish culture, you will find it much, much easier if you can at least converse on a very basic level before you move there, the Spanish will always give you much more in return if you show them the least bit of interest..

Cheap villas in Spain are widely available, even more so these days with the house prices coming down. There are so many villas in Spain that have come on the market for a variety of reasons. Some people are finding that they need to move back to their own countries in order to get work. Some people might be trying to sell a second property that they can no longer afford. As I said earlier, it’s a great idea to have holiday villas in Spain if you can be sure that you are going to be able to rent it for most of the holiday season so that you can pay the mortgage. With money tight, people are tending to holiday less so a lot of these properties are being left idle when they should be earning money. All it takes is one bad holiday season for a lot of people to give up and put the house on the market. So, if you have money to spend the house, whether you are trying to buy a villa in Spain or you are looking for villas for rent in Spain, now is the time to get some very good deals.

You can especially get some good deals on luxury villas in Spain. On a lot of these properties you are looking at big reductions in prices. One particular Spanish property that I was looking at had six bedrooms, a huge kitchen, separate dining room, a really sumptuous lounge area, swimming pool, garage, separate granny flat, office space, beautiful landscaped gardens with a patio and barbecue area, car parking spaces for six cars, security fencing and gates, with the sale price being knocked down by 40% off the original price. It wasn’t to my tastes but it would make a great deal for someone. So, this is the same for any private villas in Spain that are for sale now, get in while the going is good if you have the money.
