From Bars to Carrefour Torrevieja: the Modern Facilities in This Old World Town
Spain is a country blessed with pristine white sand beaches on its southeastern side, some of which are still untouched by excessive commercialism. However, due to the steady influx of tourists year after year, urbanization also takes place. Now, Torrevieja (a town in Alicante, Costa Blanca) is keeping up with the times and modern amenities are now available such as sports stadiums, Carrefour Torrevieja, and many other establishments.
When it comes to markets, Torrevieja is chock full with choices and you will never get tired of shopping around. A supermarket by the name of Carrefour Torrevieja operates most of the day so you could stock up on toiletries and other supplies. A craft market also operates everyday at Paseo Maritimo de la Libertad and has over 300 stalls selling different types of goods. In Salinero Calle, there is also a much awaited flea market every Friday morning that has more than 1,200 stalls of goods offering clothes, shoes, bags, beddings, curtains, and even fruits and vegetables. Indeed, Torrevieja is one of the best places in Spain when it comes to shopping.

If you are interested to learn about the night life in Torrevieja, you will not be disappointed with the wide range of bars and pubs available for you to unwind in. Whether you want to dance the night away or drown yourself in booze, there will definitely be a bar for you to chill out in. Alcohol is pretty cheap here compared to other beach resorts, mainly because most of the bars are not really right smack on the beach. And you will be able to find many of your own or other nationalities to mingle with during your stay here.
Besides bars, markets and the Carrefour Torrevieja, the town also has an excellent sports center by the name of Palacio de los Deportes Infanta Cristina. There is a huge swimming pool to do your daily laps, a tennis and badminton court, and even a basketball court. Locals are very friendly and you will definitely find someone to play with while you are here. In fact, you can even interact with local coaches and set up friendly games among other tourists.
While Torrevieja still retains its old world charms, it is truly touched by commercialism from the modern world. The modern architectures are proof that its economy is rapidly shooting up and the demand for more entertainment, amenities and infrastructure is at its peak. However, despite the commercialism that Torrevieja is currently experiencing, it is good to note that it still has not lost touch with its cultures and traditions as evidenced by the festivals and fiestas celebrated in this town all throughout the year. Torrevieja is truly a modern town amidst a rich cultural heritage.
The Carrefour group is the largest retail group in Europe and the second-largest in the world. It has over 15,000 stores which are operated either by the company itself or through different franchises. The first store opened its doors in 1957 in the French town of Annecy, the word carrefour means crossroads in French. Carrefour Torrevieja has opening hours of 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM seven days a week including most holidays.
