What to see in Callosa d’En Sarria

Archaeological evidence suggests that they were in evidence in this region going back to the Neolithic period, over 5000 BC. There is also evidence dating back to the Chalcolithic period, the Bronze Age, the Iberian and the Roman eras. The Muslims also warned settlements in this and throughout different areas of the municipality.

The origin of Callosa (the closest meaning being ” hard, dry land ” in Latin) is an ancient Muslim farmstead that after the Christian reconquest made by King James I of Aragon, probably became the property of Admiral Bernat de Sarrià in 1290, during the reign of Alfonso I of Aragon Valencia and III, thus becoming the first lord. Hence, since then the city should be renamed Callosa d’en Sarrià ( “the Lord Callosa Sarrià” in Valencian) and became the center of the manor, it now covers much of the current region of Marina Low.

Since then it was acquired by several noble families, among which we could highlight the Sarrià (1290-1335), Aragon (1335-1445), Bou (1445-1560), Moncada (1560-1767) and Conde de Orgaz (1767). Currently, the title of nobility in the village belongs to the family of Valldaura Crespi.

The city remains in the old town part of its medieval urban structure, confined by the walls of Intramuros Callosa, you can come across one of its original doors which is known as the Portal. Along this line is the most traditional image of Callosa with the remains of the walls (fourteenth century) and Castillo (± 1395 -- XVIII century), declared a Cultural landmark since 2005.

The town of Callosa d’En Sarria is located in the <a href="http://theolivebranch.net/alicante-province/"title="" >province of Alicante. Natural springs in the surrounding areas feed a series of natural pools and waterfalls.
