Where is Benilloba?

Benilloba is situated on the Costa Blanca in the South East area of Spain in the province of Alicante. There are three different airports in the province of Alicante that you can choose from. The nearest airport is Alicante airport which is just outside the city of Elche and approximately 72 km from the centre of town. The next closest airport is Valencia airport to the north which is approximately 120 km, about one hour and 30 minutes drive. The furthest airport is in the southern province of Murcia. Murcia airport is about one hour and three quarters drive at just under 155 km. The town is to the east of the Sierra de Mariola and Carrascar de la Font Roja and it is to the west of Denia and Javea. It is surrounded by the towns and villages of Alcoy, Cocentaina, Benasau, Alcoleja, Gorga, Millena, Penaguila, and Benifallim.

Benilloba accommodation

Self catering accommodation, guest houses, camping facilities, and hotels, are some of the places where you can stay in the province of Alicante. There is Costa Blanca accommodation to suit all spending plans. The problem with staying in this region is that you are going to find a bit of difficulty getting accommodation in the town, especially during the high season. One recommended hotel is the Casataino which is located on Calle de San Juan, 4, 03810 Benilloba and can be contacted by telephone on 0034966504109. This rural hotels which is situated in the mountains of Alicante is small and intimate where the guest is offered comfort and warmth and a very charming environment. It offers a very contemporary yet traditional village setting.

” We have spent a day in this house and have become fully rested. Royal treatment served up by Sergio and Pilar with a custom menu which was delicious. It is noted that the owners have taken care of every detail to encourage the sense of peace that permeates this place. Reading spaces, terrace, dining room .. They have a mini library with books and DVD’s to entertain during your leisure time. In short, this place comes highly recommended for couples who wish to spend time relaxing away from the job and the city.We certainly will return.”

Rent a car in Benilloba

There is a genuine shortage of municipal transportation in the Costa Blanca in general so you should certainly rent a car if you intend to do any type of touring. You can rent a car at any of the airports in the region, preferably having your car rental booked prior to your departure. You will get better deals on Alicante car hire in the cities although this is not convenient for most people. Benilloba is surrounded by beautiful landscape with mountains, forests, and many other natural beauties. However, it is very easy to get lost in this area so it is advisable that you purchase a good map, or even better GPS system. You can rent a GPS system with your hire car.

The town of Benilloba started out as a small farmstead, built by the inhabiting Muslims in the area. By the 14th century, the town was owned by Bernat de Cruilles. A few decades later, Prince Ferdinand attempted to conquer the town but failed. By the latter part of the 15th century, the population went to as high as having 330 Muslim families. Much like the surrounding areas, by the year 1609, the Moorish families were cast out from the villages as a penalty for not converting to the Christian faith. Ownership was passed to the Counts of Aranda by 1611 with attempts to repopulate the village. The ownership was passed on to several lords even today, making it a rare and unusual situation in the Valencian community.

” In the centre of a wonderful mountain area that offers a wide range of walks and landscapes, this is a marvelous base for a walking holiday and strongly recommended. Room and bathroom perhaps a bit basic but had what you need -- includes kettle and drinks stuff but not hairdryer or TV in room. We had a great view from our sizeable balcony. Lots of lounge space, as well as a bar. Food was very good and they will provide packed lunches on request which is handy because there is not a great range of facilities nearby. English owned which can be an advantage for those of linguistically challenged.”

” Hotel Els Frares is the perfect base for exploring this area of Spain. Very comfortable rooms, beautiful lounge (Log fire!) , bar and restaurant serving great food both in terms of quality and quantity. Family run business making you welcome and accommodating individual requirements. You can opt for guided or non guided walks in this area full of unspoilt nature, this is a different Spain to the coast, yet so easily accessible. try it and I bet like me you will want to return again and again. Enjoy.”

The climate in Benilloba

The weather in Benilloba is in general sun-drenched, just like it is everywhere in the Costa Blanca. The winters are temperate and sunny, although they can get cold and snow is not unknown. The summers are wonderful and hot. Rainfall does not appear often but it is well accepted that it does rain at times. It can regularly mean a revitalizing disruption from the unbroken heat.
