Having Fun in Benidorm

Locally referred to as Benedorm in some cases, the resort of Benidorm is located in Spain within the province of Alicante. A municipality under the region of Valencia, it is renowned all over the country and beyond for its mix of sand, sea and an amazing nightlife. Its skyline has even been compared to that of Manhattan in the United States because of its numerous tall skyscrapers, found nowhere else in the country. Curious sightseers can have it all in the town and more upon further exploration. It is a site to please the senses.

The city of Benidorm was not always known as an urban trotter’s haven. Much like the other towns built along the coastlines of Spain, it was initially a small village which relied on what the residents harvested from the farmlands as well as the sea. The Arabs were some of the town’s first inhabitants, which influenced their reliance on agriculture and fishing. This was the trend from the early times up until the mid 20th century. Due to the local mayor’s persistence, the town shifted from predominantly agricultural to tourism. Large amounts of investments were poured in to develop the area, building some of the large structures and facilities which can be found today.

Although the town may be small in size, it has a lot of things to offer tourists looking to have fun while in Spain. There are two major beaches within the municipality, the Levante Beach and the Poniente Beach which can offer tourists endless hours of fun under the Mediterranean sun. Numerous hotels and other accommodations are located within the vicinity to cater to the varying needs of tourists. The town is bordered by mountains which protects the area from the cold winds of winter. It is no wonder why the area continues to be popular anytime throughout the year.

The town may have largely changed over the past few decades but remnants of its past still remain. History and architecture buffs can still find refuge in seeing some of its more traditional structures. Located within an area locally known as the old center, the streets of San Vicente, Santa Fez and San Lorenzo still house some of these relics from the town’s past.

Urban warriors will feel at home with the town and its skyline. A large part of its community consists of people originating from outside Spain. Some tourists from the countries of Ireland and Britain have made this town their home, making a large part of the local community.

In addition to the numerous skyscrapers and hotels, the town is also home to a large number of restaurants and boutiques and shops. Restaurants and discos are also abound, making the evenings in the town seem as bright and colorful as the daytime. There is a lot of activity offered by over 30 restaurants and a thousand restaurants located in the town. A place not to be missed is the Benidorm Palace, which boasts of dinner shows with cabaret performances similar to those commonly found in Las Vegas.

The town of Benidorm may seem like a wild place fit for the young but it does not discriminate. There are also sights fit for those travelling in groups or with a family. In addition to the beaches, kids will enjoy a trip down to the Mundomar, which is a local park featuring animals taken from the land and sea. There is also the Aqualandia, an aquatic park built specifically for the family to enjoy. Tourists of all types need not worry about finding transportation to and from the town. As the size is quite small, it will take travelers about an hour to walk from one end to the other.
