Banyeres de Mariola
The municipality of Banyeres de Mariola is located in the north of the province of Alicante. It is a mountainous region and the town itself is between the Mediterranean climate and the continental climate which is dominant at high altitudes in Spain. The town itself is approximately 860 meters above sea level and the highest point is another 150 meters above that. The economy of the town is mainly textile, and with 7500 people living here, there is also a diversification into the service sector and agriculture.
The history of the town goes back to well before recorded history ever began. The early parts of Banyeres de Mariola were occupied by the Palaeolithic or Bronze Age. Like many other parts of this region, the history of the town has been reliant on the outcome of different battles or squabbles amongst Nobles. Also, sometimes entire villages of land were sold off as was the case here in the 14th century.

You can get to the town via one of the three airports in the region, although the closest airport is Alicante airport which is located just outside Elche. There is not really any public transportation to speak of so if you are staying in the town you will need to hire a car if you intend touring around. Banyeres de Mariola is a great place to just relax and while away your time underneath the Spanish sunshine.
