Where is Balones?

The position of Balones is in the South East of Spain, in the district known as the Costa Blanca. The town is situated to the east of cocentaina, to the west of Denia and Javea, and to the north of Benidorm, Alicante, and Elche. It is situated in the mountains amongst a whole load of other small little villages. The problem with coming to see Balones is that you may get lost. There is only difficult winding roads that lead into the town that is very hard to find unless you are an excellent map reader. Fortunately, today we have access to GPS systems which make finding small little towns like this a whole lot easier. If you are renting a car, see the section below, you can ask the car rental company to supply you with an in car GPS system. This is not going to set you back a whole load of money but it may save you a lot of time. Also, there are detailed directions below from Alicante airport and Valencia airport.

Balones accommodation

The problem with Balones is that there isn’t nearly much in the way half accommodation for the tourist. Many people who visit the town have already secured accommodation in some of other surrounding towns and use the accommodation there as a base from which to seek out some of these quaint little villages. Having said that, you might find that these villages and small towns have very basic accommodation which the traveler can use. There are certainly more campsites in these mountains than there were in previous times. You will find that the tourist offices in the major cities will be able to help you if you are seeking Balones accommodation. Or, simply ask one of the locals. This is probably the best way of finding a small hostel or Hotel where you can stay in the town. Some of the neighboring towns where accommodation will definitely be available include Cocentaina, Muro de Alcoy, Alcoy, and Ibi. And while you are touring in these mountains you should definitely visit the villages of Tollos, Benimassot, Millena, Gorga, Quatretondeta, Almudaina, Benillup, and Facheca, all of which are close by.

Renting a car in Balones

There is an absolute deficiency of community transport in this area so you should certainly rent a car if you mean to do any kind of traveling or you want to have a look around these small little villages, and the local attractions. Even if you manage to find accommodation in Balones you will have to travel in order to find entertainment. There is not much chance that you are going to find a Balones car hire so you will have to look in the larger towns and cities. The ideal situation is to have a car waiting to you as you come out of the airport. All the major airports in the region have plenty of car hire companies for you to choose from.

What to see in Balones

A VILLAGE IN THE MOUNTAINS: BALONES
If you have been to Spain before, you have probably heard of the Costa Blanca and its pristine white sand beaches. Costa Blanca is stretched along different provinces, with its capital located in Alicante. However, Alicante is not just famous for Costa Blanca; it also has mountain ranges to boast of and one of the towns in this area is known as Balones.

Balones Alicante is located in one of the mountainous areas of the province. It is located on the southern slope of Sierra de Almudaina and is directly opposite the Els Frares. The history of its town is quite unclear since it is one of the smallest towns in the area; therefore, little recognition is received.

If you visit the town, however, you will notice that there are Iberian remains evident all around. But more people believe that Moorish people lived and thrived in the town. This is specifically evident due to the presence of a castle with a mosque of clear Muslim traditional architecture.

As of date, there are below 200 inhabitants in this small town. This is primarily because of its slow rise to civilization. It is very much difficult to reach by road because of the rugged terrain and uneven land going up the slope.

Balones is a farming village and agriculture is what support and gives livelihood to the population. Like a lot of farming towns in Spain, Balones has some beautiful olives which are used to produce high grade olive oil for export worldwide.

As for tourism, there is not much to see in Balones and accommodation is quite difficult to find hard as well. However, if you plan on going hiking or mountain climbing, there is surely a track that would fascinate you since the area is in the more mountainous region of Alicante. Despite that, some people still fancy going to Balones basically because it brings them back to how life was a long time ago – quaint, cozy, and charming, free from pollution, and laid back. Its inhabitants are contented and live a satisfied life basically because the modern mass tourism has not seen introduced greatly to the area.

However, should you go visit Balones and find yourself quite unoccupied and would want to look for something to do, a short one hour drive to the coast of Costa Blanca will lead you to the sparkling sea and clean white sandy beaches of the area. You could also visit neighboring towns such as Benidorm, Alicante, Torrevieja, or Elche that are more modern to have your fill of amenities such as discos, resorts, supermarkets, shops, and museums.

There might not be that much to see in Balones but just the refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of modern cities makes it worth visiting. It might be quite hard to reach but the effort will definitely be well worth it.

As said before, these mountains are full of nature trails and walkways for you to enjoy. You can hire the aid of a good guide because it is very easy to get lost. Some of the mountain hikes are signposted, but some of the way markings might also be missing or hard to make out. This is another area where a GPS navigation system will benefit you. If you’ve come to the area for golfing, there is no such thing as dictionary golfing, having said that, the Costa Blanca is one of the prime golfing areas of the country if not of Europe itself. There are several different courses due to choose from, all accepting different levels of player.

What to eat in Balones

Not counting the luscious Spanish cookery which is supplied in the Costa Blanca, you can partake of wonderful food from many different nationalities including China, the Netherlands, India, England, Hungary, German, and French. The cookery reflects the variety of the area; you should never be stuck for choices when dining. Most people come to the Costa Blanca should at least try some of the local Spanish cuisine. The most part, it is made of healthy ingredients. The vegetables are absolutely fresh coming from the fields and you can visit the many local markets around the Costa Blanca for stall after stall of fresh fruit and vegetables. Also, you will find them in shapes that you would never expect, types that you won’t ever see in your local supermarket. The Spanish food is cooked in traditional style which means very simple. Some of these dishes have been handed down through generations and there is no need to consult recipe books. The food that you will purchase in Balones is going to be justice, simple, very Spanish, and by wholesome. Bon appétit.

The weather conditions in Balones

Right through the year, the weather in the area of Balones is sunny. You are virtually sure of seeing some sun right through the year. It is regularly fairly hot in the summer although it can get bitterly cold during the winter months. This is because of the mountainous climate. The invariable high temperature can now and then be broken up by the odd rainy day or two. Some of the thunderstorms can be brilliant.
