Almoradi Alicante

Some people call Almoradi the heart of the Vega Baja. Almoradi Alicante lies about a mile away from the river Segura. The town was rebuilt after the earthquake in 1829 and when the town was rebuilt it was able to be rebuilt in such a way which allowed very wide streets. It was also built in such a way that if a new earthquake were to strike the area, the buildings of Almoradi would survive. Some elements of the old Almoradi were managed to be kept and incorporated into new buildings. One of the oldest buildings in Almoradi is the old hospital. This building was opened in 1930

The town has been steadily growing over the years. In 1787, Almoradi had a population of 2196, in 2009 that population had risen to 19,147 inhabitants. As with the whole area, the traditional economic activity in and around Almoradi has for the most part been agriculture. Nowadays, although there is still a lot of agricultural activity, there is a large furniture business sector here and construction and tourism are starting to play a large part. This town is full of things to do; there are almost 30 parks and squares here. There is a municipal library, a health centre, the new sports centre with swimming pools. There are also four elementary schools and a Conservatory of music. There is a large traditional Saturday market here from where you can purchase all sorts of things such as fruit and vegetables right up to various types of furniture and garden furniture. The first craft fair to take place in Almoradi occurred coming up to Christmas in 2009. Some of the participants included The Natural Bakery, the Merchants Association, and the Almoradi women’s Association. The event also staged various workshops, listings of popular food, and there was a faculty concept by the Music Conservatory of Almoradi.
