This mountainous province has a very diverse climate. The part of the climate that many people come to the Costa Blanca for is the Mediterranean climate or the Semiarid climate that make up the coastline from the border with Valencia all the way down to past Torrevieja. There is also the continental climate of the mountainous region.

Alicante also has a most diverse array of cities from the brilliant nightlife of Benidorm to the wonderful palm trees of Elche, from the ever-growing popular city of Torrevieja to the peaceful suburbs of Javea. In the north of the province are two of my favorite places, Denia and Calpe. Denia is a beautiful spot and is definitely one of the most captivating towns along the Costa Blanca. It’s also the place where you will find the ferry connections to the Balearic Islands. And I always try to take a trip to Calpe at least three or four times a year. We stay in a small family run guest house at the top of the hill. The atmosphere in this place is so relaxing and if you’re looking for a nice romantic spot them Calpe is the place for you.

Alicante airport is growing in stature as the years go by. It is one of the busiest airports in Spain and is the main airport of the province. It is located about the same distance between Alicante and Elche, approximately 10 km. You can get cheap flights to Alicante from many different airports throughout Europe. In fact, a large majority of the Alicante airport arrivals are from international locations, the largest numbers coming from the UK, Germany, and Holland.

The original airport was basically an old aerodrome named La Rabassa which opened in 1936. This was replaced by El Altet which began operating in May 1967. There are two working terminals in this airport and one that is under construction and earmarked for completion in 2011. Ryanair is one of the largest airline companies which operate from this airport with almost 60 Alicante airport departures. Passenger numbers have been on the increase year upon year, with 9,382 935 passengers taking flights to Alicante in 2010.

And for your onward journey from Alicante airport to your final destination, there are several different choices. First off is of course Alicante car hire. There are several different companies that you can choose from if you are looking to rent a car at the airport itself. Your best bet is to book a car at the same time as you are booking your flight. This is because your choice of vehicle will be restricted if you wait till you arrive at the airport and the price that you’ll pay is probably going to be more expensive. So, before you leave home, go to Google where you’ll find information about each and every car rental company that is available here along with prices and availability. Use the search phrase “Car Hire Alicante Airport”. Or, maybe you would prefer to rent a car for a shorter period of time, collecting the keys in your final destination. In this case, “Car Hire Alicante “, “Car Hire Benidorm”, Car Hire Torrevieja”, etc are other phrases that you can use to get the best deals. There are also several bus services which you can take advantage of from the airport to the main cities. And of course there are the taxi ranks. You will also be able to take advantage of a tram service which is soon to be built which will take you to Alicante, Benidorm, and Denia.

Another reason why people love to come to this province is because of the Alicante weather. The average temperature in Alicante during the summer months is 32° and even in the winter months this average is still at a very comfortable 16°. It can get a little bit humid during the summer months in certain parts of the province but these are the days that you will want to be relaxing by the pool or swimming in the wonderful Mediterranean Sea. The weather in Alicante is perfect for any outdoor activities, especially for anyone who is enthusiastic about watersports.

But there is so much more to this province, so many different things that you can do while you are here. The cuisine is beautiful, mostly using the finest ingredients from the land and the sea. The restaurants are great value and offer a diverse mixture of different national and international dishes. And it is very family orientated which makes Alicante a great place to take your children. And don’t think that it’s just a summer destination, because there is something happening in the province throughout the year. In fact, if you take your holidays to Alicante in the off-peak season then you are guaranteed to save a lot of money.
